Mother’s Day is an American holiday, that became popular in every country of the world. Sometimes the adoption of the holiday is connected to some significant stories, that happened in a country. For example, Mother’s Day first appeared in Egypt in 1943, when it was introduced by journalist Mustafa Amin. Unfortunately, his idea was overlooked at that time. But Amin didn’t leave his attempts to establish the holiday and connected it with the story of a widowed mother, who devoted her life to raising her son until he became a doctor. The son then married and showed no gratitude to his mother. This story motivated Amin to promote the holiday, till the idea was accepted by president Gamal Abdel Nasser. The first official celebration of Mother’s Day in Egypt took place on March 21, 1956
Other Arab countries adopted this holiday, following the Egyptian practice.
