What's Covered?

Contractor's All Risks Insurance. The basic concept of this cover is to offer comprehensive and adequate protection against loss or damage in respect of the contract works, construction plant and/or bodily injury arising in connection with the execution of a building project.

Al Wathba Insurance's CAR Policy has two sections.

Section 1: Physical Loss or Damage

This section provides coverage for losses on materials and contract works from a variety of risks such as:

  • Accidental damage during construction
  • Fire, Lightning
  • Water damage, flood, storm and tempest
  • Collapse, collision, impact, burglary, theft and malicious damage, aircraft
  • Breakdown or explosion to any part of the contract e.g. Lifts in buildings etc.
  • Consequent Damages due to defects in material casting, workmanship and design Riot, Strike, subsidence, landslide, cyclone, hurricane, earthquake, volcano.

Section 2: Third Party Legal Liability

This section provides indemnity to third party due to the Legal liability of the insured resulting from negligence of the insured up to an agreed limit(s) for

  • Accidental bodily injury &/or death to third parties
  • Accidental damage to Property (excluding Property belonging to or in the custody or under the control of the Insured, and
  • Legal expenses for defending any proceedings with company's consent.

Maintenance Cover

Maintenance Period Cover protects the insured's against any loss &/or damage that occurs in the course of the compliance with the maintenance obligation under the contract subject to the cause of such loss or damage having originated during the period of insurance

The factors influencing the premium rate for CAR are the Quantum of Contract Value, Period of Contract, Value of Construction Plant & Machinery, nature & type of project, previous loss history of the contractor and the experience of the contractors in similar type of projects.

What's Covered?

Contractor's Plant & Machinery (CPM). It is designed to provide insurance protection and peace of mind for contractors, and the construction industry, against a range of risks. Our insurance delivers financial protection against events of any cause whatsoever occurring at work, at rest or during maintenance operations, and is not limited to a specific construction site.

There are different types of Construction Plant and Machinery that are usually put into operation at the construction or Erection site. The Plants, Equipment and Machinery are exposed to a number of risks exist in addition to the exposure to natural calamities. Such Machinery and Plants include shovels, excavators, rollers and dumpers amongst others.

Al Wathba Insurance's CPM Policy covers Contractor's Plant and Machinery against any unforeseen and sudden physical loss or damage from any cause including electrical or mechanical breakdown but except those specifically excluded under the terms of the Policy. The indemnity under the policy is for replacement or repair.

Premium rate is based on factors like replacement value of Plants & machinery, model & type of Machinery, age and working conditions, maintenance history, previous claims history and contractor's experience etc.

What's Covered?

Erection All Risks Insurance. The basic concept of this cover is to offer comprehensive and adequate protection against all the site risks involved erection of machinery and plant as well as steel structures of any kind.

Erection All Risks Insurance has two sections providing coverage as under:

Section 1: Physical Loss or Damage

This Section provides coverage for losses and / or damages to materials and erection works owned by principals and contractors / subcontractors against

  • Accidental damage during construction
  • Fire, Lightning
  • Water damage, flood, storm and tempest
  • Collapse, collision, impact, burglary, theft and malicious damage, aircraft
  • Breakdown or explosion to any part of the contract e.g. Lifts in buildings etc.
  • Consequent Damages due to defects in material casting, workmanship and design Riot, Strike, subsidence, landslide, cyclone, hurricane, earthquake, volcano.

Section 2: Third Party Legal Liability

This section provides indemnity to third party due to the Legal liability of the insured [subject to the limits under the policy] resulting from negligence of the insured or his employees causing:

Accidental bodily injury &/or death to third parties (Not members of the insured's family or their employees), accidental damage to Property (excluding Property belonging to or in the custody or under the control of the Insured, his family members or his employees), and Legal expenses for defending any proceedings with Insurer's consent.

Maintenance Period Risks: After the Erection works, including testing and commissioning, covered under the EAR policy is completed, maintenance period cover comes to effect. During this period the cover is against any loss &/or damage that occurs in the course of the compliance with the maintenance obligation under the contract insured/contractor's provided the cause of such loss or damage originated during the period of insurance.

What's Covered?

Machinery Breakdown [MBI]. It is designed to provide coverage for machinery against any unforeseen and sudden physical loss or damage necessitating its repair or replacement due to causes such as defects in casting in material, faulty design, faults at workshop or in erection, bad workmanship, lack of skill, carelessness and explosion are just some of the causes that can be covered by MBI.

Machinery and Equipment used in various industries are exposed to risks of unforeseen and sudden mechanical or electrical breakdown resulting in loss or damage. Such losses may be repairable or sometimes need replacements.

Sum insured for this insurance should be the replacement cost including freight, duty, cost of erection and other dues. If the sum insured is found to be inadequate, our policy will pay in such proportion as the sum actually insured bears to the sum actually should have been insured.

Premium rate is influenced by factors such as values, type, make, model and age, nature and type of industry where used, experience of the industry, loss history.

What's Covered?

Electronic Equipment [EEI]. It is designed to provide coverage for protection against loss and damage from "all risks", to specialized electronic equipment such as computers, x-ray machines, communication facilities, studio equipment and other data processing machines. The policy also covers (hardware), data media center (software; data media and the cost of restoration of information) and increased cost of working (additional expenditures in case of a loss or damage).

Electronic Equipment used in various industries and offices are exposed to risks of unforeseen and sudden causes resulting in loss or damage. Such losses may be repairable or sometimes need replacements.

This Policy applies to the insured items at work or at rest, or being dismantled for the purpose of cleaning, overhauling or being shifted within the premises, or in the course of the aforesaid operations, or during subsequent erection after commissioning.

Sum insured for this insurance should be the replacement cost including freight, duty, cost of erection and other dues. If the sum insured is found to be inadequate, our policy will pay in such proportion as the sum actually insured bears to the sum actually should have been insured.

What's Covered?

Loss of Profits following Machinery Breakdown [LOP]. It is designed to provide coverage for the actual loss of profits, sustained as a result of business interruption caused by an accident, indemnifiable under the Machinery Breakdown Insurance Policy.

The consequential loss following a breakdown of machinery, plant or equipment due to a sudden and unforeseen event would sometimes be worse than the extent of physical damage. Production and business comes to a standstill sometimes, but fixed expenses such as salary, wages, interest on capital, rent etc., will continue to be incurred resulting in loss of gross profits and increased cost of working during the interruption period.

What's Covered?

This insurance provides for indemnity against physical loss or damage to stocks such as frozen meat, foods, and other chilled and frozen items of trade of the insured which are destroyed due to unforeseen and sudden breakdown of refrigerating machinery.

Al Wathba Insurance's Deterioration of Stock Insurance is designed to provide coverage against damage or loss from deterioration of stocks in a controlled temperature of the cold storage due to breakdown of refrigerating machinery including rise or fall in temperature and escape of refrigerants.

What's Covered?

Boiler Insurance. It is designed to provide coverage of indemnity for loss or damage to boilers resulting in explosion and collapse due to overpressure and failure of safety valves, faulty workmanship, defective materials and faulty design.

What it covers

The accident insurance for boilers and pressure vessels against the risk of explosion and collapse due to the following causes:

  • Over-pressure
  • Failure of safety valves
  • Defective materials and workmanship
  • Faulty in design

Period of Insurance

Normally issued on an annual basis commencing and ending at 12 midnight.
